Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. My name is Josh Monen and I’m a born again Christian. I’m married to my best friend, Lacie Joy and we have four amazing kids. I enjoy reading, writing, snowboarding, playing hockey, backpacking, mountain climbing, worshiping, drinking Chai, and hanging out with my family and friends.

When I was 20 years old Jesus saved me from a life of drug and alcohol addiction. My drug of choice was cocaine.  I eventually used so much cocaine and crack that I suffered from what psychiatrists called “paranoid schizophrenia.” I was hopeless and suicidal. I tried to quit by completing a 28-day inpatient treatment program, extensive outpatient care and 12-step meetings. While all these things helped in their own way, it was the blood of Jesus that ultimately set me free from the chains of addiction. on May 24, 2004 I said a simple prayer on my parents bathroom floor, “Jesus, if you’re real, save me.” Turns out He is real and He did save me!

I’m excited about knowing the truth and the truth setting people free. That brings me to Beyond Clichés. My prayer is that this blog would help readers move beyond theory and philosophy and into the reality of God. I would like to see a community form where we can encourage each other along the way. We do not have to be conformed to this world but instead we can be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
